Manchester quintet Soup! have returned with their latest memorable cut, ‘Supplies’. The band has found a niche sound that sits somewhere between that almost spoken word post-punk approach, and a synth-heavy take on art-punk. The crisp jangle of guitar chords acts as the perfect bed for both conversational vocal lines and those airy synth melodies. They explain that the track is “about the frustration of watching someone close to you live their life in a way you know isn’t going to make them happy in the long run, and also wanting them to come back to you but feeling selfish about it and questioning your own motivations.” Soup! are playing in London on February 25th, 2023. -Dan Peeke.
